Roti  (Whole Wheat bread)

Roti is the main bread of  North India cuisine. Roti (also known as chapati), is made of whole wheat flour traditionally known as Atta flour. North Indians eat Roti’s everyday with the different kind of curries and cooked vegetables. It is baked on a flat on a slightly concave iron griddle, called Tawa. It is supposed to be very healthy and makes one feel filled. There are various variations of Roti like :- Tandoori Roti, Paranthas, stuffed with vegetables etc. Roti can also be made from various other flours like Bajra ( another Indian grain), corn and there are some special rotis like Makki roti, that is made on special occasions like Baisakhi ( farm harvesting festival) etc.

Roti is considered a staple food as it has a lot of fiber and carbohydrates, essentially meant to enrich the farming community and other physically active jobs.  But it became so popular that it was adapted by the whole society.
