Poori

Poori (Fried bread)

Poori is another popular North Indian bread, generally served at breakfast. It’s made by wheat flour. Based on the region within North India, it may be considered as the best breakfast item or second best. The dough is prepared by using whole wheat flour and can be mixed with ingredients like crushed Spinach etc. The dough is rolled into thin flat circular shape and deep fried. Generally Poori goes along with Aloo (Potato) gravy, yogurt, pickle and/or a sweet dish called Halwa. Many a people prefer carrying Pooris while they are travelling as it can maintain its taste and texture for a long time while being at normal temperature and can be eaten with Tea/Coffee. Pooris are easy to make compared to some of the other Indian breads, so they are more popular when someone is running short of time. People have started mixing ground vegetables in the flour to start making different variants of poori like Spinach, Methi. There is another form of poori called kachaudi made by creating a hard flour and addling some lentils to it.
